To help Muslims worldwide distinguish between cultural traditions and authentic Islamic teachings by collecting, analyzing, and presenting cultural practices through research grounded in Qur’an, Sunnah, and scholarly insight—empowering individuals and communities to align their lives more closely with Islam.

What is DeenOverCulture - The Project
DeenOverCulture is a global research-driven platform dedicated to identifying, documenting, and analyzing cultural practices that may conflict with authentic Islamic teachings.
Our mission is to empower Muslims with clarity—helping communities distinguish between what is truly part of the Deen and what is merely inherited culture.
Today, many traditions are practiced in the name of Islam despite lacking Qur’anic or Prophetic basis. Others are culturally beneficial but mistakenly seen as religious obligations. Our platform collects real-life submissions, researches them through Islamic sources, and publishes clear explanations to promote awareness, balance, and spiritually aligned living.

Submission Collection
We gather cultural practices from users. Our target milestone is 100 submissions before we move to next phase. This ensures enough diversity, multi-country representation and multiple categories for research.

Screening & Selection
Once 100 submissions are reached, we will begin screening, refining and selecting entries for research.
The team selects a batch of culturally significant entries based on popularity, harmful impact potential, relevance to Islamic guidance.

Extensive Islamic Research
Selected entries undergo extentive research involving: Qur’anic and Hadith reference checks, Consultation of classical and contemporary scholarly works, Scholarly opinion review, Cultural/historical context study, This rigorous process ensures accurate Islamic alignment assessments.

Every submission undergoes an automated and manual profanity scan to ensure the content remains respectful, safe, and suitable for academic and Islamic review. This step filters inappropriate language, harmful expressions, and offensive wording while preserving the original meaning of the cultural practice being described. This helps maintain a professional and ethical environment for both users and researchers.
Extensive Research
Our research team conducts a thorough, multi-layered investigation into every selected submission. We analyze cultural anthropology sources, regional customs, sociological studies, historical developments, and scholarly opinions to understand where the practice originated, why it persists, and how it affects communities today. This ensures our conclusions are not based on assumptions but on evidence-backed knowledge.
Fact & History Check
We verify all historical claims, cultural context, and regional practices through reputable academic resources, ethnographic records, and sociological data. Cultural practices often evolve over time, so we fact-check their origins and current usage to present users with the most accurate information. This step protects the integrity of our findings and ensures users receive reliable, validated insights.
Quran & Hadith Reference Check
Each assessment is cross-referenced with authentic Islamic sources, including: Qur’anic ayat Sahih Hadith collections Recognized fiqh principles Scholarly rulings from major schools of thought We examine whether the cultural practice aligns with, contradicts, or falls outside Islamic guidance. Only authentic, widely accepted evidence is used. This ensures that our evaluations adhere to Islamic principles and uphold the sanctity of the Deen.
Attested by Qualified Scholars
Before final publication, each researched entry is reviewed and attested by qualified Islamic scholars or students of knowledge trained in Qur’an, Sunnah, and fiqh methodology. Their review ensures theological accuracy, contextual relevance, and adherence to mainstream Islamic scholarship. This step strengthens the authenticity and credibility of every published conclusion.
Proof Read
Finally, all content is professionally proofread to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and respectful language.
